A delightful antique tea or coffee set covered with applique squash vines, flowers, and buds. The white porcelain of the teapot, creamer, sugar and cup and saucer is textured to resemble gourds. The lid of the teapot and sugar have stem tops.
Tea or coffee is poured through the whimsical squash flower spout. The teapot and sugar handles are sinewy vines. Brown vines and mature flowers contrast with small pink flower buds.Even the saucer has vines and buds on it. The cup is footed with tiny ruffles around the edge of the pedestal. The vines and flower buds are lightly dusted with gilding. The organic design and natural theme of the set indicates influence from the Aesthetic Movement in England in the 1880s. The unmarked set was possibly made by the Moore Bros. In England, circa 1880s to early 1890s. The set is from an estate and has some provenance.
