This listing is for the Satsuma demitasse tea set that you see in photos. I believe that it is old enough to be considered vintage and possibly antique. The other items at the sale plus overhearing someone talk about the previous owner leads me to think that the owner spent some time in Asia in the 1960's or 70's. I think that this set is probably at least that old. Including the lids, there are 17 pieces. There are six saucers, five cups, one teapot, one creamer and one sugar. All of the pieces except the lids have a Satsuma type mark that includes the Shimazu Family Crest. The lines forming the characters in the marks are a shiny gold color that looks like bright gold or dull brown depending on the lighting.
The same is true for the gold color used to form the pattern. The background color is an off white cream color with the typical crackle seen on Satsuma pieces. The pattern flowers have pairs of white lines on the petals and gold colored dots in their centers that are raised slightly so that their texture can be felt when the pieces are handled. The pink color is a pale pink. The diameter of each saucer measures close to 4 ½ inches. The cups measure close to 2 ¼ inches across their rims. Including the lid, the teapot measures about 5 ½ inches tall. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. The set is in excellent condition. I have looked it over carefully and not found any damage.
There are no cracks, chips, scratches, crazing or stains. I did find a factory flaw in the form of one very tiny rough speck where the edge is slightly raised on the edge of one of the saucers.
There might be some very slight wear to the gold that I have not seen. Otherwise, these pieces are fine and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of their general condition. I guarantee this teaset to be as described and represented by the 26 photos after the general description. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them.
Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors.
I often say that an item measures or weighs close to because in my opinion no measurements are exact and some things are difficult to measure. Often, I have a double wall box custom made for larger items and that might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually biodegradable. Sometimes, I use used boxes. 26 photos should load with this listing. The item "Vintage Satsuma Tea Set Shimazu Crest Thousand Flower Gold Pink White Green 17pc" is in sale since Saturday, August 7, 2021.
